Sri Lanka is a paradise for reptiles because of its tropical climate and the thick forest coverage around the island which is ideal for them to flourish. About 220 species of reptiles reside in the country and 116 of them are proudly endemic as well. The country is also home to one of the highest densities of snakes in the world with around 100 residential species and about 50 of them being endemic to the island.
Another gripping factor of this paradise island is that all types of reptile categories exists here that includes snakes, lizards, geckos, skinks, monitors, crocodiles and turtles.
Through our research we have discovered that Beragala – Wellawaya is home to more than 10 number of reptiles and more than 5 of them are endemic to the country. These animals’ safety is our number one priority and we will be doing our best to ensure they are kept well protected.
